- Abstract
The article discusses the development of the seal-shaped commercial robot Paro and its medical and therapeutic functions at medical and welfare facilities in Japan. A research and development process was conducted on a robot that could become a pet substitute and could have therapeutic effects on people. One physiological benefit of robot therapy is that the user can start a conversation and becomes socially activated. With the use of Paro, caregivers become more light-hearted and their stress was reduced.
