- Title
'BY EXAMPLE AND GODE REASON': Reconsidering Commonplaces and the Law in Fulgens and Lucres.
- Authors
McBain, James
- Abstract
A literary criticism of the play "Fulgens and Lucres," by Henry Medwall is presented. A brief history of the play is provided and its basis in classical tradition, use of ancient arguments regarding the nature of true nobility, and treatment of the law are examined. The characters are described and virtues associated with nobility of character and of the practice of law are explored. It notes the play's purpose of providing a demonstration of an argument rather than the presentation of one.
