- Authors
Beauchamp, Gorman
- Abstract
An essay is presented on the depiction of author Zora Neale Hurston for Eatonville, Florida in her by-now-canonical novel "Their Eyes Were Watching God." It says that Hurston depiction for the town shows ambiguity, fictive history, and describes it to be founded by Joe Starks instead of Joe Clarke. It mentions Hurston's desire to describe people, who are vigorous and physically healthy. It also highlights the relationship of the novel's protagonist Janie Starks to the town founded by Joe.
