- Title
EUROPE AND ITS FERTILITY: FROM LOW TO LOWEST LOW.
- Authors
Billari, Francesco C.
- Abstract
The article presents information on the fundamental changes in family formation that took place in Europe during the last two decades of the twentieth century, as well as some possible explanations for these changes. Interest in trends and differences in European fertility is currently at a high level. While scientists have documented these issues continuously, albeit usually failing in the task of forecasting large changes. European policymakers appear to be worried, mostly for the consequences of fertility trends on overall population dynamics and especially on ageing.
