Abstract
The article presents a brief history of violence in the Rift Valley in Kenya. The Rift Valley is home to the Kalenjin tribe of former president Daniel Arap Moi. Moi ruled for 24 years until 2002 when Mwai Kibaki took over. Land conflict in the region go back to the colonial and post-colonial period. The worst incidents of violence were in 1992 when about 1,500 died in land conflicts.
