- Title
Neural circuits: Sing a song of “sex please”.
- Authors
Nicholson, Craig
- Abstract
The article discusses the study which reveals that male Drosophila melanogaster court females with a courtship song created by wing vibrations. The male-specific fly courtship song is believed to be produced by neurons in the thoracic ganglion which are controlled by descending neurons from the brain. Although the neural circuitry of males and females are anatomically similar, females do not sing for sex. Study shows that females possess the motor programme that allows males to produce the song.
