- Abstract
The induction hardening is carried out for 40Cr15Mo2VN steel by using a vertical induction hardening machine under specific frequency and power, and the effect of heating time on surface hardness, depth of hardened layer and microstructure characteristics of the steel is studied. The results show that; the induction hardening of the steel under frequency of 12.3 kHz, power of 57. kW and water cooling conditions is feasible; when heated for 7 s and 8 s, the surface hardness of sample is not less than 58 HRC, the depth of hardened layer is 4.2 mm and 4.7 mm respectively, with the surface structure of tempered martensite, and the core microstructure of tempered sorbite; when heated for 9 ~ 11 s, the surface hardness of sample is not greater than 58 HRC, the overheated microstructure appears on surface when heated for 9's and 10 s, and overburned microstructure appears on surface when heated for 11 s.
