- Abstract
This article summarizes two interviews with Eva González, an actress, dancer, playwright, activist, matriarch, and patron of the arts in Havana, Cuba. Eva discusses her background in dance and theater, her experiences during the "special period" in Cuba, and her struggles with the Cuban arts scene. Despite challenges, Eva remains dedicated to her artistic pursuits and community engagement through the arts. The article also discusses IRREVERENCIA Producciones, an organization founded to create alternative ways of production in Cuba and promote dialogue and participation within the Cuban cultural institution. Eva's plays, such as "Lo mío NO es tuyo" and "El diccionario," challenge misogyny, explore themes of freedom and aging, and aim to engage in discussions about gender, history, and language.
