- Abstract
The article focuses on the study which examined the amelioration of physical strength in waste foundry sands (WFS) for reuse as a soil amendment. To determine the particle size, the sand fractions was dry sieved using Na-hexametaphosphate, while the silt and clay fractions determined by pipette. Five out of the 15 sands tested exhibited high strength characteristics after a wet/dry cycle which would be detrimental to root and plant growth if used as a component in a manufactured soil or as a soil amendment.
