- Abstract
The article presents an examination of baby books created in the United States from the late 19th-century to the end of the 20th, mapping the changing formats and content of the books as well as their implications on the larger social shifts in American society regarding infancy over the period. Comments are given describing common features of baby books as well as noting their research potential. Subjects illustrated through the author's survey include infant psychology, religion and consumerism, noting how each has changed U.S. child rearing practices.
