- Abstract
Public theology implies that the church is not just a private matter that should address believers in the church about their souls beyond the graveyard, but also a public matter that should empower them to address public issues, such as justice, freedom, and human rights, in the public sphere. In light of this thought, the church is called upon to address public issues in society, because the role of the church is not narrowly confined within the decorated compound of the church edifice but goes far beyond the comfort zone of the church boundary to enter the public sphere in order to address public issues there for the betterment of public life.
