The Lost Poems of Jacob Steendam.
- Authors
Noorlander, D. L.
- Abstract
The article offers information related to four poems written by Dutch poet Jacob Steendam in New Netherland that Steendam published in his Asian collection in the 1670s, much later than his three better-known New Netherland poems. Topics discussed include strengths and possibilities of poetry as shown by Steendam; marriage and families that had been common themes for Steendam from the start of his writing career; and ways in which his work allows to identify the ideas that concerned him most.
