- Abstract
This volume is the final contribution of the noted scholar Seán Freyne. He provides a reconstruction of the development of early Christianity drawing on his vast knowledge of Judea and Galilee. The volume traces the development from Jesus, who is presented as a miracle-working sage with an apocalyptic perspective, through the impact of the Hebrews and Hellenists, to the view of early Christianity that arises in saying sources, like Q and Thomas, and narrative sources, like Mark and Matthew, before concluding with reflections on some second century Christian texts. The volume draws widely on literary works and archaeology to present a full account of the development of early Christianity.
