- Abstract
This paper introduces U-slot and metal strip feed matching structure into a rectangular microstrip antenna to design a dual-band WLAN antenna, which has a simple and compact structure, accurate central frequencies, desired bandwidth characteristics and high radiation efficiency. The position and size of U-slot and feed matching strip are calculated theoretically and then simulated in Ansoft HFSS (a computer software dealing with 3D electromagnetic models). As an instance, a dual-band microstrip antenna is designed, whose bandwidth (with return loss S11<-10dB) is up to 6% at the lower frequency band (2.35GHz-2.55GHz) and 8% at the higher frequency band (5.10GHz-5.40GHz). Furthermore, this antenna provides stable gain (over 3dB when elevation angles are over 45 degrees), stable polarization (vertical polarization) within its bandwidths, and is easy be fed by using a 50-ohm probe feed with SMA connector such as a coaxial cable. The simulating results show that the antenna can meet the dual-band communication demands of WLAN.
