- Title
SIRGE COALITION STATEMENT ON THE CRITICAL RAW MATERIALS ACT.
- Abstract
The SIRGE Coalition, a group of Indigenous Peoples and leaders, welcomes the European Parliament's recognition of Indigenous Peoples' right to Free, Prior and Informed Consent in their position on the Critical Raw Material Act. However, they express concern that the law does not fully protect Indigenous Peoples' rights and could threaten their well-being and the success of the European Green Transition. The Coalition calls on European Member States to adopt Critical Raw Materials legislation that guarantees Indigenous Peoples' rights. They also highlight the omission of protections for the Sámi Peoples and the need for a whole-text approach to include Indigenous Peoples' rights in the CRMA.
