- Abstract
Introduction: conditioning activities are used by professional and amateur athletes before training or competition in order to improve physical performance. Aim: the objective of the study was to compare the effects of upper and lower limbs conditional activities on shot put performance. Method: thirteen men (Age: 22 ± 3 years, Weight: 74.2 ± 7.4 kg, Height: 1.75 ± 1.3 m) participated in the study. Participants randomly performed the following situations: Push up followed by shot put; Contra movement jumping followed by shot put and Shot put only. Each conditioning activity was composed of 3 sets of 10 s with one minute of interval between the sets. After 3 minutes of interval the participants performed 6 attempts of the shot put. Results: ANOVA did not indicate difference in the best shot put distance among the situations. According to the typical error analysis, there were 7 positive responses after the arm push up and 5 after the contra movement jumps. Conclusion: the results suggest the effect of conditioning activities on the shot put performance without predominance of central or muscular mechanisms in the triggering of post-activation potentiation.
