- Authors
MODARRES, ANDREA
- Abstract
The article presents criticism on the 2015 historical novel "The Moor's Account," by Laila Lalami. The work retells the stories of two sixteenth-century Spanish expeditions to the so-called New World, from the point of view of a Moorish slave named Estevan. Estevan appears in the travel accounts of the Spanish nobleman Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca and the priest Fray Marcos de Niza. The "historical and fictionalized Moor" is explored as is the power of names and naming.
