- Authors
TITLESTAD, MICHAEL
- Abstract
The article presents literary criticism of several books including "The Watchers on the Longships" by James F. Cobb, "Jamaica Inn" by Daphne du Maurier, and "The Shipping News" by E. Annie Proulx. Particular focus is given to depictions of shipwrecks and wreckers in the novels. According to the author, these texts largely portray wreckers as violent savages. Details on claims that wreckers used lights to lead ships into rocky and dangerous waters are also presented.
