- Abstract
The present study by Gregor Hofmann, titled "Collaborators of the 'Volksgemeinschaft': FC Bayern and National Socialism," examines the history of FC Bayern Munich during the time of National Socialism. The author analyzes the club's history from its founding in 1899 until the 1950s, also considering the biographies and scope of action of the club members. Hofmann concludes that FC Bayern was not an exceptional case and aligned itself with the scope of action of the Nazi "Volksgemeinschaft." The club excluded Jewish members and did not show any openly anti-Semitic tendencies before 1933. The crisis of the club after 1933 was not a result of targeted influence by the regime, but rather other factors such as the loss of sponsors and the departure of key players. The strength of the study lies in the differentiated analysis of structures, professional work, and social relationships within the club.
