- Abstract
Merola, who was a San Carlo conductor in his pre-San Francisco Opera days, conducted Mario on many occasions in their nearly two years on the road together. For season three, Merola was at last able to complement his roster of established stars with the first American engagement of a singer with a considerable international reputation: Italian soprano Rosina Torri. The Record Collector 21 SOPRANOS OF SAN FRANCISCO OPERA'S FIRST DECADE by Jeffery S. McMillan Assuming the new year brings, on some level, the return of live opera performances for gathered audiences in the United States, San Francisco Opera will continue its march toward its 100th season in the autumn of 2022. With Claudia Muzio joining Merola's roster for the second season and fated to become one of San Francisco Opera's greatest artists, Saroya was not rehired by Merola after the first year.
