- Abstract
This paper attempts to examine two extremes of the aesthetic taste of an epoch, the seventeenth-century in Holland. These two extremes are the quotidian and the extraordinary, notions we use as aesthetic categories, and also evoque two types of temporality. Both categories are related to the spirit of their time. On the one hand, the quotidian is related in this text with Dutch genre painting art. On the other hand, the extraordinary is related to the experience of nature in the marine landscape. Both genders, new then, represent two aesthetic-time categories already mentioned, which could also be called, as I say in the conclusion, trends of the spirit.
