- Abstract
An interview with Doug Hesse, founding director of the Writing Program at the University of Denver in Colorado, is presented. When asked how he arrived at a career in rhetoric and composition, Hesse reveals that he was actually a chemistry major at the University of Iowa before he found out that he could major in English. Hesse elaborated on a piece he wrote about a first-year writing course. He describes how his views on teaching have changed over his 33-year career.
