- Abstract
The article focuses on the distinct characteristics of native American documentary media. Native documentaries are concerned for communicating the indigenous understanding of history, legal and moral issues related to land. They depict the political experiences of native people developed in economic and institutional contexts in their communities. Native films express different styles and themes compared to non-natives to create strong sense of collective identity within the community. A comparison of native and non-native documentary film and video is presented.
