- Abstract
Postmortem Interval (PMI) is one important method that needs to be done to help identify the time of death in forensic science. Post Mortem Interval refers to the time interval between the discovery or examination of a corpse with the time of death. The direction and the possibility of time can be used to determine of happening in more detail and direction. The importance of PMI in veterinary science is related to cases of animal abuse in society, which involved the role of humans both intentionally and un-intentionally resulted in death. In this study the method used for determining PMI estimation is postmortem evaluation of physiological and physical changes such as the distribution and amount of livor mortis, rigor mortis, changed in body temperature, and the level of body damage. The purpose of this study was to determine the estimated time of death in experimental rabbits with the time difference from burial. Four rabbits were used in this study, which were buried, and were observed at certain intervals, with a maximum observation distance of one week. Abnormal organs are observed, collected, and processed histotechnically. From the results that can be observed from this study it can be concluded that changes appear from the two rabbits, with observational changes that are significantly different from the macroscopic picture in rabbits with the longest death time (maximum 3 days) compared to other rabbits that have a death time of day 1 and day 3. Changed were also found in the histopathological observations of the liver and kidneys microscopically. This preliminary research study can be used as a reference for determining the estimated time of death in animals (PMI).
