The article discusses the history of the Dutch colonial empire from 1600 until 1800 with special attention to its economic aspects, historiography, and the economic aspects and role of the Atlantic slave trade. Other topics mentioned in this article include the Dutch East Indies Company (VOC), the political aspects of the 19th century Cultivation System, and the economic growth during this period.
