- Abstract
In the book "Top Secret! Electronic Warfare in the Cold War" by Jörg Beining, electronic warfare (EloKa) of the Bundeswehr and NATO is examined from an Eastern perspective. The author investigates what the intelligence service of the GDR knew about EloKa and its surveillance towers at the German-German border. The book contains many documents, tables, photos, and facsimiles that are interesting for specialized readers, but possibly not for a broader audience. However, a comprehensive presentation of EloKa and its technical features is missing. The GDR was well informed about EloKa in NATO, especially in the 1980s. The book also provides insights into the role of the Ministry for State Security (MfS) in the surveillance of Western EloKa. Overall, the book is an important contribution to the history of the Bundeswehr in an international context.
