- Abstract
The present book review describes the work "Vice Admiral Paul G. Hoffmann (1846–1917). Activity in a turbulent time" by Peter Max Gutzwiller. The book is a biography of Vice Admiral Paul G. Hoffmann, who was one of the "founding fathers" of the Imperial Navy and was involved in important events. The author bases his description on Hoffmann's memoirs, diaries, and selected documents from the Federal Archives. The book offers interesting insights into Hoffmann's career and personal life, although some critics complain that the admiral's political views are not described in more detail. Overall, the biography provides an interesting mosaic piece of the history of the Imperial Navy.
