- Abstract
The Chacanta region is an area that has been little studied; The base cartography of the area is very old developed in the 1960s at scale 1: 50,000, by S (1960 and 1962) and Shagam of the Ministry of Mines and Hydrocarbons (1969). Due to the scale used, it lacks stratigraphic and structural details, as well as localization information of metallic and nonmetallic minerals. In this sense, the geological mapping of the area of Chacantá and its environs is carried out at a scale of 1: 25,000, corresponding to the National Cartography sheet 5940 IV SO, which covers an area of approximately 129 km2 in order to identify, delimit and characterize the lithological units, geological and mineral structures present, using field recognition techniques and petrographic analyzes. For the geological-structural characterization, the area was divided into two tectonic-stratigraphic blocks characterized by ages, hierarchical structural features, lithology and significant events occurring in this area of the south-Andean flank, obtaining a tectono-stratigraphic block A: Paleozoic - Jurassic formed by the Iglesias Complex, the Tostos and Mucuchachí associations, the Sabaneta, Palmarito and La Quinta formations and the Canaguá, Chacantá, Mucutapó and La Laguna granites and a Tectono-stratigraphic B block: Cretaceous formed by the Río Negro, Apon and Aguardiente. Each lithological unit is broken down into sections and facies, in order to establish the existing field relationships and their as sociation with the structural framework and the thermal events occurring in the region.
