- Abstract
The article focuses on a study that evaluated the perception, experience with substances use, and sexual behavior of 18-25-year old men during incarceration in the U.S. The study employed 80 men from four different states that were subjected to a qualitative interview using the grounded theory content analysis with concentration on the role of correctional personnel and economic significance of substance trafficking. Results of the study indicated that most of the men believe that drugs are easily available in prison, half of them admitted using substances while in prison. In terms of sexual behavior, most of the men acknowledge its existence in prison but are hesitant to talk in depth and sex in prison was associated with homosexual behavior or identity.
