- Title
Practice Notes: Strategies in Health Education.
- Abstract
The article reports on the plan to institutionalize the Aban Aya Sustainability project, a school based risk-reduction program for African American children in 15 Chicago-area schools. The project plans to find out if parent or teacher implementer models for delivering the risk-reduction curriculum can be sustained without significant external funding. The objective of Aban Aya is to reduce the problems of unsafe sex, violence and drug use among the African American youth. If found viable, the parent educator approach will be used as the model for implementing school-based health education program and the teacher implementer approach may help health educators understand the types and levels of training necessary for ensuring teacher delivery of school-health education programs.
