- Abstract
On May 20th, 1990, the first post-communist presidential elections took place in Romania. One of the three candidates, Ion Rațiu, was portrayed as someone who had not suffered the communism due to his exile in the past. Our objective is to analyse his electoral campaign via the PNT-CD newspaper, Dreptatea. Through the analysis of this non-FSN daily we aim to study the development of the campaign, Rațiu’s message and any eventual incidents. Thus, we will be able to understand if Romania was taking the path towards democracy or if there were still remnants of the communist past.
