- Abstract
The article presents the discussion on opioid overdose death rates increasing since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Topics include factors contributing to this crisis and the limited accessibility to opioid agonist treatments (OATs) combining with a lack of utilization of psychosocial interventions (PSIs); and evidence-based medication alternatives such as heroin-assisted treatment (HAT3), slow-release oral morphine, and oral or injectable hydromorphone.
