- Abstract
Introduction: Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men; most of the cancers are referred as acinar, nevertheless some of them may present variations on their architecture that mimic benign lesions which can determine a diagnosis problem for the pathologist. For this reason the cancers with cytology variation have been described as pseudohyperplastic, atrophic or foamy cells. Objective: Presentation of pseudohyperplastic carcinoma, importance of knowledge and their unusual histological features. Material and methods: We present the case of a 60 years old male with persistently elevated prostate specific antigen; transrectal prostate biopsy was performed with histopathological report of pseudohyperplastic tissue. Results: Retropubic radical prostatectomy was performed. Histophatological study reported pseudohyperplastic carcinoma with Gleason score 6 (3 +3) with margins free of neoplasia. Discussion: Pseudoyperplastic adenocarcinomas are rare tumors; they are diagnosed by pathology and in view of its morphological benign features should be confirmed by immunohistochemistry using AMCAR, p63 and high molecular weight cytoqueratin. Conclusions: Pseudohyperplastic adenocarcinoma is a subtype of acinar adenocarcinoma, representing approximately 2% of these tumors, it is well differentiated Gleason score 6 (3+3) and its prognosis and treatment are unchanged compared to conventional acinar adenocarcinoma.
