- Abstract
The article discusses the relations between the U.S. and Myanmar, or Burma, from the 1960 through the mid 2010s, including in regard to Burma's detente with the U.S. in the 2010s, Burma's isolationist policy and diatribes by the Burmese military junta against Western countries. An overview of the role that the leader of the consortium of Burmese pro-democracy groups the National League for Democracy (NLD) Aung San Suu Kyi played in Burmese politics, including her opposition to the Burmese military government, her participation in Burmese elections and her ambiguity in condemning Buddhist violence against Muslims in the country, is provided.
