- Title
GENERALIZED MENTAL RIGIDITY AS AN EXPLANATORY CONCEPT.
- Authors
Solomon, Marvin D.
- Abstract
The article argues that a generalized mental rigidity has been used as an explanatory concept concerned with students' behavioral patterns and as a reference point into teaching problems. A diagram is presented on the explanatory power of the concept of rigidity in terms of the number of events which it is possible to derive from it. The postulation of concretemindedness and comprehensiveness is permitted by the rigidity theory. The inter-related aspects of a study of the rigid non-rigid personality from the viewpoint of the educator are discussed.
