- Authors
Rice, Roy C.
- Abstract
This article focuses on the motives and philosophies which have influenced the changes in the curriculum offerings in the secondary schools in the U.S. There was little changes in the curriculum during the first century and a half brought about by religion. With this change came an increase in immigration, gradual industrialization and urbanization which developed a new political spirit. This political motive was dominant in the educational development. Thus, the introduction of new textbooks stimulated curriculum development and the addition of new subjects for study.
