DEVELOPING SKILLS IN THE USE OF CURRENT MATERIALS: A PROBLEM IN TEACHER-EDUCATION.
- Authors
Gillette, B. Frank
- Abstract
The article discusses the use of current materials in science teaching in the U.S. Science education is significant in a society. It prepares and helps students to adjust to social changes brought about by technological developments. Science teachers, therefore, use current materials to achieve this objective. Current materials should not be construed as limited to newspapers and magazines. Science teachers in California define current materials as any and all procedures whereby the adult secures his knowledge of what is going on. Science teachers need to put current materials in the center of the curriculum rather than somewhere in the periphery. Current materials may take a variety of forms, they may be: articles and pictures from daily newspapers or other well-read magazines; radio programs; television shows; guest speakers; or field trips.
