- Abstract
The article discusses the use of oil slick detection (OSD) systems in the cleanup of oil spills at the Atlantic coastline and the Gulf of Mexico. An overview of the oil spill off the Atlantic coastline caused by the Maltese-registered tanker Erika is provided. The European Maritime Safety Agency's (EMSA) set of basic standards for oil spill detection equipment is discussed. Also discussed is Rutter Technologies' OSD system.
