- Abstract
The book "Pádraig Ó Laoghaire (1870-1896): an Irish Scholar from the Beara Peninsula" by Meidhbhín Ní Úrdail is a detailed study of the life and scientific work of Pádraig Ó Laoghaire, an important figure in the Irish language movement. Ó Laoghaire was a native speaker of Irish and actively involved in the Gaelic League. He published numerous works and played a significant role in the establishment of the first rural branch of the Gaelic League. His correspondence with Douglas Hyde and Seosamh Laoide provides insight into the lives and work of Irish-speaking intellectuals. Ó Laoghaire is particularly known for his collection of Munster folklore. The book "Pádraig Ó Laoghaire: An Fear a Thóg an Leabhar" by Meidhbhín Ní Úrdail pays tribute to the life and work of Irish writer Pádraig Ó Laoghaire. Ó Laoghaire was a significant collector of folk tales and an advocate for the Irish language. The book includes an extensive collection of words, phrases, and riddles from Ó Laoghaire's correspondence and other sources. It also sheds light on Ó Laoghaire's personal life and his contribution to Irish culture. The book is a homage to Ó Laoghaire's work and highlights the importance of regional and national networks in the revival of the Irish language.
