- Abstract
Iron is one ol the undesired element with high content and dillicult to remove in the raw materials ol zinc hydrometallurgy, and the Fe2+ ions are one ol the impurity that are ol great concern in the zinc electro winning process. The simulated zinc sullate solution containing Fe2+ was used to carry out zinc electrowinning experiments. The effects of Fe2+ concentration, current density, time, electrode distance on the current elliciency, power consumption and zinc morphology were studied systematically. The results showed that the current elliciency was seriously reduced and the power consumption per ton ol zinc was signilicantly increased when the concentration ol Fe2+ in the zinc sullate electrolyte was more than 6 mg/L, meanwhile the cathod zinc was redissolved. As the concentration ol Fe2+ was below 6 mg/L, the optimized operating conditions were current density ol 400 A/m2, electrode distance ol 4 cm and electro winning time of <16 h. More than 90% ol the current elliciency, less than 2 950 kWh ol the per ton zinc power consumption and high quality ol cathode zinc with smooth and Ilat surface was obtained At these optimized conditions.
