- Abstract
The article discusses the effects of the earthquake that hit the fringing reefs of Ranongga Island, Western Province, Solomon Islands on April 2, 2007. Almost 80% of the reef is described to be above the sea level and that a very narrow reef remains underwater. The earthquake also submerged large Porites and Acropora colonies. It is also emphasized that the mangrove forests and seagrass meadows are dying. The reef habitat has been lost, causing the fish displaced into the small remaining reef areas and reported poor catches.
