- Title
DIVERSIFYING PHYSICIAN RISK THROUGH CONTRACT.
- Authors
PALAY, THOMAS
- Abstract
The article explores a contractual solution to issues involved in a physician's risk. Since physicians mainly invest in human capital like their skills and reputation, they become vulnerable to unanticipated situations. As such, they have to have a means to protect their portfolio of human assets such as multi-party contracting through group practice. Physicians can integrate their practice with other physicians who have complementary skills to avoid the risks faced by their human assets. One way for physicians to integrate is through a firm like a group practice HMO. Another is through relational contracting like in an individual practice association.
