- Title
A PRELIMINARY SURVEY OF SOIL AERATION CONDITIONS IN A SCOTTISH HILL GRAZING.
- Authors
Poel, L. W.
- Abstract
The article presents the results of a quantitative survey on the soil pH and oxygen diffusion rate of a hill grazing located at the Ballochraggan, Port of Menteith, Perstshire, Scotland. The Bracken Eradication Experimental Station of the West of Scotland Agricultural College is formerly built on the location where the survey was conducted during the summer of 1968. The result of the survey showed that the Molina-Yardus vegetation located on a hill-top site possess the highest mean rates of oxidation. Moreover, low-lying swamp areas have the lowest aeration status. It was also recorded that the Calluna as well as hill-flush areas are moderately well aerated.
