- Abstract
The article comments on the emergence of relatively few women who have proceeded on taking higher education or doctorates in the U.S. Statistics revealed that the number of women in higher education or in doctorate studies have worsened as compared to that of the year 1940. There are those who claim that this situation may be ascribed to male prejudice particularly in higher education, where discrimination against women is rampant. However, several hypotheses have been presented which suggests that other factors including economic, sociological or psychological reasons and higher education trends may have attributed to the low participation of women as well. There is a call for equal opportunities that should be due for women who intend to have careers in education and other professions.
