- Abstract
The article focuses on the interaction between teachers and students in the learning process and how teachers can use verbal scaffolds to resolve errors or misconceptions and help students learn. The four recursive processes in guided instruction are discussed including the use of questions to determine the student's level of understanding of the material being taught. Errors to avoid in guided instruction such as group configuration are mentioned. An example is given of real-time teaching in which a small group is working collaboratively, the students are asked to summarize the "Ain't I a Woman?" speech by Sojourner Truth, and the teacher scaffolds their understanding with prompts and cues.
