Mountain Baptists, Mountain Theology.
- Authors
Super, Joe
- Abstract
The article discusses the beliefs and denominational memberships of Baptists in the Appalachia region of the U.S. The author contends that stereotypes of such Baptists as primarily belonging independent and Southern Baptist denominations are incorrect, as so-called mountain Baptists have largely belonged to Northern Baptist groups. It is said that popular religious culture took precedence over affiliation with denominations such as the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), the American Baptist Missionary Union (ABMU), and the American Baptist Home Missionary Society (ABHMS).
