- Abstract
The authors discuss issues concerning the controversy on the extent of mesenterectomy in right colectomy. They explain the development of terminology to describe the extent of dissection including D3 extended mesenterectomy, high tie and complete mesenteric excision. They also discuss the importance of preoperative awareness of the vascular anatomy before conducting the procedure and the debate on whether some form of extended lymph node dissection should be implemented in clinical practice.
