- Abstract
The authors call on physician educators to consider integrating relevant lifestyle medicine competencies into education and training programs to boost lifestyle medicine prescribing. They cite the major contribution of lifestyle to deaths of adults in the U.S. and examine the effects of health behavior change on mortality, morbidity and health care costs. They also describe the challenge faced by physicians in effectively motivating patients to change behavior. A suggested lifestyle medicine competencies or primary care physicians is also presented.
