Adult Use of Prescription Opioid Pain Medications-- Utah, 2008.
- Abstract
The article discusses the findings of the 2008 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) survey, highlighting information on how Utah residents obtain and use prescription pain medication. As noted, approximately 20.8% of Utah adults between the ages of 18 years old had been prescribed an opioid pain medication during the preceding 12 months, of which 3.2% admitted of using their medication more frequently or in higher doses than advised by their doctor, and 71% reported that they had stored the medication. A description of the survey methodology is given. It also discusses the limitations of the report according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). INSET: BOX.
