- Abstract
The article discusses the issue regarding standard development for excellence in teaching in Australia. Like other profession, teaching is based on the specialized skills and knowledge of its members, skills developed and refined throughout the professional lives of teacher and pricipals. A profession's standards state what an occupation believes its members should know and be able to do, based on its core values, the experience of highly regarded practitioners and research. Standards have been developed by professional associations including the articulation of the status of their professionalism and the focus set for a range of professional learning.
